Sensat announces new precision data tools to eliminate ‘GPS-lag’ in infrastructure digital twins

For immediate release

London, UK - 30th January 2026: Sensat, the leading digital twin platform for the civil infrastructure sector, has today announced a significant update to its spatial data engine. The latest release introduces manual repositioning for photomarkups, a capability specifically designed to ensure data integrity for site teams operating in remote or GPS-denied environments.

In the high-stakes world of asset operations, such as at national grid sites or water utility works, the ability to record accurate visual evidence is often hampered by the limitations of consumer-grade mobile global positioning system (GPS). A mobile phone's location can drift by several metres, meaning critical site photos can appear in the wrong location within a digital twin, creating "information chaos" for project managers.

Sensat’s new precision tool allows field teams to manually override GPS data, repositioning photos in both 2D and 3D environments to their exact real-world coordinates. This ensures that every piece of visual evidence, from vegetation risks to structural faults, is anchored to a single, indisputable source of truth.

"Infrastructure projects do not always happen in areas with perfect satellite coverage," said Sensat’s co-founder Harry Atkinson. "By giving teams the power to manually calibrate their field data, we are removing the friction between the physical site and the digital replica. This is about providing our clients with the certainty they need to make million-pound decisions without ever needing to leave the office."

This update is part of Sensat’s wider commitment to supporting the UK’s critical national infrastructure. By refining how data is captured and displayed, Sensat continues to help major utilities reduce site visits, lower carbon footprints, and mitigate the risk of costly project delays.

The new photomarkup tools are available immediately to all Sensat users globally.
