The point tool enables you to obtain an X, Y, Z coordinate for a given location within your project. It also allows you to annotate a specific location for colleague collaboration.

1. Select the point icon in the left-hand toolbar.

2. Navigate to the area of your project you would like to measure/highlight.

3. Single-click on the desired location and a marker will be placed.

4. The relevant data including the X, Y, Z coordinates will be saved as a post in the

Markups are pins that can be placed onto every data layer, place and spot for different use cases.   

The markup tools enable you to not only measure the different features of your site to a high degree of accuracy without having to put boots on the ground, but they also allow you to highlight important areas of your site in order to pass information to your colleagues.

What is a markup?

The zone tool allows you to measure the area of a selected section of your project. It also allows you to highlight any significant zones within your project site for colleague collaboration.

Select the zone icon in the left-hand toolbar.

Navigate to the desired area of your project.

Single-click to generate the first point, then unclick.

Move the cursor to the subsequent points of the polygon you wish to generate.

Double-click on the last point to finalise your zone.

To edit, move or organise multiple markups at once:

3. Selection boxes will appear beside each of the markups.

4. Select the items you would like to edit or move.

To select all of the  markups which are visible in the panel (note: the filters or search bar can control which markups are visible), click on the selection box at the bottom of the panel:

* can also be used to rapidly select multiple markups.

5. Click on the three-dot menu at the bottom of the panel. You will be presented with the following options to edit, organise or move your markups:

Add to an existing folder (if applicable)

You cannot delete someone else’s markup.

You cannot move someone else’s markup to 

You cannot move someone else’s markup to an existing folder that is in your personal area (thereby making it visible only to you).

To select multiple items that are adjacent: click the first item that you want to select, press the 

 key and hold it down, click the last item and release the 

key. All items between the two selected items will be selected.

Markup: bulk editing, moving and organising markups

After you have created your markups, there are a variety of different ways you can edit them until you are happy with them.

1. Add extra information to your markups such as a description, or by adding attachments.

2. Edit the name of the markup from its generic title to a name that will give it more meaning to other members of your team.

N.B. You can only add extra information to markups you created.

1. Navigate to the point in your markup that you would like to reposition.

2. Single-click and drag the point to the new desired position in your project.

3. The measurement data on your markup will automatically update.

1. Navigate to the section of your markup where you would like to add a new point and hover over until you see a white point tooltip.

2. Then single-click on the line to add the new point.

The colour and icon markup feature allows you to customise the colour and assign icons to your markups to highlight points of interest, making collaboration even easier.

1. Create the desired markup or navigate to an existing markup and click the colour icon.

The cut and fill tool allows you to take a volumetric measurement (showing both the cut volume and the fill volume) for a selected zone within your project.

Top tip: Use this tool for measuring stockpiles as part of earthworks management.

1. Select the height profile icon in the left-hand toolbar.

2. Navigate to the desired area of your project.

3. Perform a single-click to select the first point in the height profile, then unclick.

4. Move the cursor across to your second point, and click again to lay down the first part of your line. If you want to create a multi-point line repeat this action until you are done.

5. Double-click on the final point to finalise your height profile.

6. The distance and maximum elevation will be saved as a post in the

The line tool enables you to measure the distance between selected points in metres and to calculate the bearing* of a line in degrees. It also allows you to draw lines on your map to annotate things such as access routes.

4. Move the cursor across to your second point and click again to lay down the first part of your line. If you want to create a multi-point line repeat this action until you are done.

5. Double-click on the final point to finalise your line measurement.

Measure: distances and angles between points

The height tool enables you to measure the angle of elevation, height and vertical incline degree between selected points within your project.

Top tip: Use the height tool to measure the height between respective assets.


Select the height icon in the left-hand toolbar.

Single-click at the base level of your object.

Move the cursor to the final height of the object you are measuring and double-click to finalise the measurement.

The angle of elevation, height distance and vertical incline degree will be saved as a post in the 

Measure: heights of any point on site

 (visible to everyone on your project). Any markups you create are set to 

 by default, which means no one else in your project can see them. It is then possible to update your markups to 

 so that they become visible to everyone on your project. We recommend doing this with markups that contain important information for your team.

N.B. If you have shared a markup with your colleagues by making it Personal your colleagues will no longer be able to access and view this markup.

1. Navigate to or create your desired markup and click on the three dots. Select 

2. In the pop-up window, enter the email addresses of the team members you would like to share your markup with and enter a message if required.

N.B. If you share a personal markup it will be moved to project.

The magic wand tool allows you to create a zone markup with one click by creating an area across sections with similar colours.

N.B. The magic wand tool is only available in 2D and will only work if there is a layer in 2D such as an orthomosaic or DSM.

Select the magic wand icon in the left-hand toolbar in 2D.

Navigate to the desired area of the project and click to create a zone.

A highlighted area will appear with the option to adjust the threshold. Reduce or increase the size of the area as needed.

Press save to create a zone from the highlighted area.

Using the magic wand tool

The Sensat timeline is an easy way to monitor the changes happening on your project site. It not only allows you to keep track of progress over time, but it also allows you to make plans for the future that can be shared with your colleagues.

The timeline is set to a monthly view, selecting the current month by default. Simply click through the tabs to switch from month to month. To see a month not currently in view, use the arrow buttons to move the timeline to the left or the right.

The timeline can also be viewed in weeks. Use the dropdown menu to select weeks instead of months.

If Sensat has provided you with multiple scans over time these can be viewed using the timeline. The scans will be given 

 which you will be able to see across your timeline. This gives you a quick snapshot of when your point cloud data has been updated.

1. Look on the timeline for the green flash and drone symbol. This indicates that a survey was conducted in this time range.

2. Select the tab with the desired survey upload.

3. Your view on the canvas will then be filtered to only show your selected scan. You will also get a view of all uploads and markups created during your selected period in the 

4. To compare changes through time, click on another tab with a previous or more recent scan.

Timeline: Progress monitoring

The timeline now allows you to plot markups against time. You can now use markups to support project planning by setting their start and end dates. Markups will appear on the timeline.

1. On creating a new markup it will automatically be given a start and end date 7 days apart based on the time range you have selected in the timeline under 

2. These dates will act as a filter for where on the timeline the markups will be visible.

3. New start and end dates can be selected using the date picker.

4. Markups can also be set without an end date. This means they will continue to appear over time. This might be useful when adding assets to Sensat that will continue to be useful markers throughout the project.

5. Once markups have timeline dates they will be filtered from the canvas in line with the selected time range tab.

6. If you want to see all the content on the canvas or uploads/markups panel you can deselect the timeline by clicking on the currently selected tab on the timeline or by clicking the 

Assign dates to markups

Discuss important project details with your colleagues by starting comment threads in Sensat. Commenting is a great way to share updates, discuss features and resolve issues in real time aided by the visual representation of your site.

N.B. Comments can be started at any position on the canvas and it is easy to tag your colleagues so they will be included in the conversation. Comments are visible to everyone in your project but only the colleagues that are tagged will be notified of updates.

1. Select the comment tool by clicking on the comment button on the top of the left-hand menu.

2. Drag the comment bubble to the position on the canvas that you would like to have a discussion about and drop the comment in place with a single click.

N.B. This can be done in both the 3D and 2D environments.

3. Type your message. Use the @ symbol to @mention colleagues and markups to tag them in the comment.

4. Press the paperclip button to attach an image (jpeg or png) or a file (pdf).

 to post your comment. The comment will be saved in the 

 and any tagged colleagues will be notified. 


N.B. Any comment you create will be accessible from both 3D and 2D irrespective of where you first created the comment.

1. To edit a comment you have written click on the 3 dot menu next to the comment and select

1. Navigate to the comment you want to resolve by clicking on a comment icon on the canvas or locating the comment in the panel.

2. Click the ‘Resolve thread’ button on the top right corner of the comment details panel.

N.B. Resolving a comment thread will remove it from the ‘Open comments’ list and remove the comment icon from the canvas. It will also send an email notification to all tagged users.

3. To find resolved comment threads, open the comment list panel and use the filter drop-down at the top right corner to select ‘Resolved threads’. This will change the list to display only resolved comment threads.

4. Reopening threads can be done by either clicking the ‘Thread resolved’ button at the top right, or sending a new comment reply.

1. All the comments created by you and your colleagues are stored in the 

2. Toggle between all comments in the project and those only you are involved in. Click All to see all comments and Yours to see only your own.

3. Filter comments between all open comments, comments you haven’t read yet and resolved comments. Select your chosen option from the drop-down at the top right of the panel.

4. Click on a comment to see the full details of the thread.

1. Navigate to the comment you want to respond to, by either clicking on a comment icon on the canvas, locating the comment in the panel or by clicking on a notification email. At the bottom of the thread start typing in the box where it says

1. If a colleague tags you in a comment you will receive an email with a link to take you directly to the comment.

2. You will receive an in-platform notification if you have been tagged in a new comment. Look out for the red notification on the

The crop tool allows you to crop a section of your project into a separate file while maintaining the state of your overall Sensat project. The cropped file can be downloaded and used to create a new project in Sensat or used in other applications.


1. Select the crop icon on the left-hand toolbar.

2. Click on the map to start a crop box of the desired area you want to extract and click again to complete your selection.

3. You will be given the option to rename your crop before it is saved to the 

 pop-up on the bottom right-hand side of the screen to generate your crop file.

5. Your file will be saved in the cropped files folder of the 

 for downloading. The most recent crop will be found at the bottom of the list. 

Cropping your project

The snapshot tool enables you to take a clean screenshot of different views in your project for use in presentations, meetings, collaborating with team members and more.

Snapshots automatically have all menu bars removed so that you only see the image of the site with no distractions.

N.B.The snapshot tool is available in both 3D and 2D.

1. Navigate to the snapshot icon on the left-hand toolbar.

2. Click the button to get a snapshot of your current screen. This will be saved for downloading in the 

on the progress panel that appears in the bottom left-hand corner:

Or navigate directly to the UPLOADS panel and type snapshot in the search bar. The most recent snapshot will be found at the bottom of the list.

4. Select the desired snapshot and press on the download button. The snapshot will be downloaded in a .png format.

Taking a snapshot

1. Open the three-dot menu on the viewpoint you would like to share. Select ‘Share viewpoint’.

2. In the pop-up window, enter the email addresses of the team members you would like to share the viewpoint with and enter a message if required.

3. Click ‘Share’ to share the viewpoint.

4. Selected users will receive an email notification where they can open the shared viewpoint. They will be taken to exactly the same view as you, allowing you to discuss particular aspects of the site knowing you are looking at the same thing.

5. Alternatively, you can copy a link to the viewpoint, either from the pop-up window, or directly from the panel using the copy link button.

1. Locate the viewpoint you would like to delete in the viewpoints panel.

2. Open the three-dot menu and select ‘Delete’.

3. An alert message will display to check if you want to delete it. Select ‘Delete’ to remove the viewpoint.

N.B. Deleting a viewpoint will also remove it from all associated presentations

The viewpoint tool allows you to create multiple viewpoints of your project to store and share with your team members.

1. Click the viewpoint icon on the left-hand toolbar to create a viewpoint of the project. A viewpoint stores your camera angle, visibility of layers and markups, and timeline settings.

2. Created viewpoint will be shown in the viewpoints panel alongside all other viewpoints.

N.B. Both 2D and 3D viewpoints are visible on the panel and are available to all members of the project.

1. To preview a viewpoint before you decide if you want to adopt it, click on your chosen viewpoint. This will enter the preview mode.

N.B. If you open a viewpoint link from an email notification you will be taken directly to preview mode.

2. If you would like to return to your original view, press the back arrow at the top left corner of the screen. You will be taken back to the previous screen and all the functionality will be available again.

3. If you would like to adopt the selected view, click ‘Adopt viewpoint’ in the top right corner.

N.B. Adopting a viewpoint will update your visibility settings and you won’t be able to return to the previous view.

1. Locate the presentation you would like to reorder in the presentations panel (right toolbar). Click it to open the detailed mode.

2. Hover over the viewpoint you would like to move, click on the six dots to the left of the viewpoint and drag it to the new position.

1. Locate the presentation you would like to remove a viewpoint from in the panel.

2. Open the three-dot menu on the viewpoint you’d like to remove. Select ‘Remove from the presentation’.

N.B. Removing a viewpoint from a presentation will not delete the original viewpoint.
